Cook 8, Ideas Competition

The international design competition COOK8 has as its subject the design of an interior dining space for 8 people, of an area of 24 - 30m². The formulation of new ideas on the design of a meeting-place for people on the occasion of the preparation and consumption of food, seen as means of socialisation. Domes, Organisation and co-ordination of the competition.

‘The service may start.  Each  visitor becomes a guest, observer or part of the action. They will treat or be treated. There are no rules or roles. The pulse of the kitchen, often hidden behind doors, is unravelled, exposed and elevated as a ritualistic process. Kitchen worktop and dining table are amalgamated, rescuing memories of eating while mum is cooking; tasting the dough before it turns into a cake.

Ingredients and utensils hang, cookers are found along the table. Sinks mark the beginning and the end of an event that is almost ceremonial. The tablecloth is unrolling while the casserole is bubbling. Add to this the smells and aromas wherever you look. What do you bring to the table?’
